What is teaching abroad?

Do you want to work overseas, but you don’t have much professional experience? If you speak English, you have one of the most desirable skills to work in some non English speaking countries. You can use this skill all over the world to teach English as a valid and meaningful occupation earning a generous salary to fund your travels (and life). Our Teach trips give you the chance to take part in a 3-4 week class-based TEFL or TESOL course where you’ll learn how to teach English to foreign students. You’ll be provided with accommodation, transfers and cultural activities and excursions throughout your course. Upon completion, you’ll be awarded an internationally-recognised accreditation which will give you the freedom to teach and travel all over the world or land a local teaching placement. You may enjoy it so much that you take it up as a long term career as there is growth potential! Most of our English teaching trips are in destinations where your dollar will go far to experience more - from cheap exotic food and booze to transportation, you’ll be able to party hard and travel loads when not teaching.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get a job teaching English abroad, wonder no more. This is your chance to take a break from your routine back home, connect with a new community, challenge yourself in an exciting way and, most importantly, return home feeling proud of the positive impact you’ve made on someone’s education.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I teach abroad?

Teaching abroad is an incredible opportunity to see the world while making a positive impact on the lives of students in different countries. It allows you to fully immerse yourself in a new culture, gain international teaching experience, and develop personally and professionally. Whether you’re seeking adventure, new experiences, or a way to share your knowledge, teaching abroad offers a chance to broaden your horizons and enrich your teaching skills. Plus, it's a great way to earn money while travelling, offering the perfect mix of work and exploration.

Where should I teach abroad?

Choosing where to teach abroad depends on the kind of experience you’re after. If you love vibrant cities with a well-structured teaching experience, Japan or South Korea may be ideal. For a more relaxed atmosphere, Europe – with countries like Spain or Italy – is perfect for teaching English. Latin America offers a mix of exciting cultures and beautiful landscapes, with places like Mexico and Costa Rica providing plenty of opportunities. Think about the climate, job market, and lifestyle you want when deciding on your destination.

How long can I teach abroad for?

The duration of your teaching abroad journey can vary widely depending on the destination. Many international schools or language institutes offer contracts that last one year, but there are also shorter stints available. On the other hand, if you're interested in staying longer, some countries offer renewable contracts, allowing you to extend your stay and teaching experience for several years.

Do I need qualifications to teach abroad?

For teaching English, a TEFL or TESOL certification is required. Some places, like international schools, may require a degree. There are, however, a few countries that accept native English speakers without a degree.

What countries pay the most to teach abroad?

If earning potential is high on your priority list, countries like South Korea and Vietnam offer some of the most competitive salaries for teachers. South Korea and Japan also offer good wages alongside perks like free housing and flight reimbursements, making them great choices for saving money while teaching abroad.

What are the best countries to teach abroad?

The ideal country to teach abroad will depend on what you’re looking for, whether it's cultural immersion, salary, or lifestyle. Japan and South Korea are popular for their structured teaching programmes and vibrant cities, while Spain and Italy offer the chance to live in Europe and experience a slower, more relaxed pace of life. If you're interested in a blend of adventure and culture, Mexico and Vietnam provide dynamic opportunities with a growing demand for teachers.
